MANILA - SM said it contributed P100 million to a private sector initiative to help poor people affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.
The company said it gave the amount to Project Ugnayan, which was organized by the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation. The donation was on top of the P170 million in donations to over 50 hospitals to help them in the fight against COVID-19.
Project Ugnayan which was launched by PDRF in partnership with Caritas Manila, aims to provide P1,000 gift checks to over 1.5 million poor families in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. The gift cheques are redeemable in groceries and supermarkets.
"Project Ugnayan has mainly tapped into Caritas Manila’s Project Damayan for the distribution of supermarket vouchers to underprivileged families and ABS-CBN’s Pantawid ng Pag-ibig as
well as the Asian Development Bank and the Government’s Bayan, Bayanihan Project for the distribution of food packages," SM said.
